Character Info

◎ Character's Name: Yosuke Hanamura
◎ Character's Canon: Persona 4
◎ Character's Age: 17
◎ Canon Point: Post true-end
◎ Background/History: Yosuke's Page at the SMT wiki. Please let me know if this is not sufficient.

◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Nah man

◎ Personality: The short of it: Yosuke is an outgoing, slightly clumsy, snarky city kid who happens to be stuck in a small town. While he very, very often sticks his foot in his mouth or otherwise makes an ass out of himself, he's still a sharp, capable, loyal young man whose heart is in the right place at the end of the day. His greatest fears are isolation, boredom, not belonging, and being useless. And cockroaches. (And he thinks fish are weird, too.)

He's a little quirky, to say the least.

We first meet Yosuke as he crashes his bike. Though he's grumbling in pain, it's decided it would be best to just leave him be. So the second time around, when he crashes his bike right into a trash can... well, you can't just leave him there, can you? Even though he's clearly in pain, and totally embarrassed, You get to witness Yosuke smile, shrug the situation off, and do his best to stutter and stammer his way into not talking about it again and seriously thank you for the help but let's go now? This first impression is a pretty good summary for him - he tries, he really does, and though he usually ends up stumbling along the way, he knows how to get back up. ... But maybe he needs a little bit of hand with that, huh?

Despite being a bit of a dunce from time to time, he is actually pretty good at reading people. He's aware of the emotions and feelings of others, and genuinely cares for the well-being of his friends. We see several times in his social link that even while working at Junes, he is often called upon to diffuse situations, to lend a listening ear to employee concerns, or to generally just be there for other people. In the beginning, he's a little bit of a pushover about it. As time goes on, and as Yosuke learns more about himself, we see him finally capable of not only stepping up to the bat for others (like he so desperately wants to do anyway), but also for himself, if push comes to shove.

Still, he seriously has some more growing up to do, and that all stems from the fact that... well. Honestly... Yosuke Hanamura really, really wishes he were ~cool~. No seriously, he does. He blames the fact that he was forced to leave his life in the big city and settle in this boring, country-ass town for his lack of popularity (because that makes sense). To make up for this, he often ends up playing like he's just ~too cool for school~, if it means it gets him a little bit of attention. Bonus points if it's a smile from a cute girl -- which is another unfortunate side effect of his wanting so desperately to be cool: he swears up and down he's some sort of ladies' man, when the truth could not be any more of the opposite. His crushes end up (hilariously, tragically) one-sided, he's already been rejected by Yukiko twice not even an hour into the game... it's sad. By the end of the game, he does come to realize that he really has grown to love the town of Inaba, especially all of his friends and the memories he now has with them. It doesn't quite keep him from acting like he's more ~super awesome~ than he really is, but at least he's mellowed out on it a little.

It also doesn't help that he's a little bit of an asshole - goes hand in hand with opening his mouth before his brain kicks in long enough to tell him no. He can be pretty insulting, especially if you're not expecting to hear the unfiltered thoughts of a bored-but-sharp high school kid. Heck, he ends up in fights with Chie (probably his closest female friend) constantly. But whenever he's called out on his assholery, he is usually appropriately apologetic. Though it may take him some time to actually correct his behavior (or at least learn to watch it), he does make a genuine, sincere effort to change and to make amends.

Although his clumsiness and his apparent knack for not watching what he says might leave a little something to be desired, he is still a good kid at heart. He has a sense of justice that's very in tune with how he believes the world should be, and he would do anything to see things stay that way. And he does care, genuinely, for his friends - will give them a smile and all of the reassurance they could ever want, so long as it means their spirits are lifted and they know that everything will be okay. When he puts his mind to it, he's even capable of leadership! Well, co-leader ship. He is shown in canon to be one of the first to actually put two and two together, so to speak. It's essentially established that while Yu is the leader of the Investigation Team, Yosuke is often the one that helps the most - Yu's right hand man, so to speak.

At his heart, Yosuke is still just a kid - a teenage boy that's trying to grow up and live his life the best way he knows how. It's strange to think what would have become of him if he hadn't been thrown head-first into a situation that forced him to accept every part of himself, for better or worse, but it's safe to say that if he had never helped solve the mystery surrounding the TV world, never joined the Investigation Team, never faced down his shadow... hell, if he'd never met his friends, he would not be the same person he is today. And though he'll continue to change, he knows it will be for the better. I mean, hey, he already is.

Well... fish are still weird. And he still can't have tofu without making a horrible face. But the rest is better already, right~?

◎ Powers/Abilities: Even though he's a little new to it, Yosuke is pretty handy in a fight. He's fast, for one; his reflexes are fantastic and he has the endurance to keep dodging and striking well after others would probably have tired out. (In side games, it's brought to the player's attention that Yosuke is the fastest playable character.) His weapons of choice are kunai, which he dual-wields, often to the beat of whatever music is playing through his headphones while he fights. Fitting for such a bundle of nervous energy, he seems to be far more focused on the battlefield this way.

He is also capable of summoning his Persona, which is a living embodiment of his true self. I'll spare you the Jungian psychology lecture and leave it with simply this: by accepting the darker, far more negative aspects of himself (his shadow) and acknowledging the truth of their existence, his strength to face himself and to carry on with life manifests itself in a physical form that aids him in battle. Yosuke's persona, Susano-o, fights alongside him, usually with wind-based skills or devastating physical attacks of his own. Having Susano-o around allows for the following abilities:

• Tentarafoo - Chance to confuse all foes
• Dekaja - Nullifies stat bonuses on all foes
• Diarama - Moderately restores 1 ally's HP
• Garudyne - Deals heavy Wind damage to 1 foe
• Masukukaja - Increases party's Hit/Evasion rate temporarily
• Magarudyne - Deals heavy Wind damage to all foes
• Brave Blade - Deals severe Phys damage to 1 foe
• Wind Amp - Strengthens Wind attacks by 50% (*Passive ability*)

Susano-o gives Yosuke no elemental weakness, and a small resistance to the element of fire.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
• Kunai x 2
• Tarot card for "II. The Magician"
• Wallet - contains school ID and Junes employee ID. ... No money. Kid's broke rn.
• Over-the-ear headphones - red and black
• Glasses with square, orange frames

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Air, easily.
◎ Sense: Sound. Youske is a very auditory individual. There's proof enough of this by the way he constantly has his headphones either around his neck or on his ears (including in the heat of battle), but he also outright mentions being a fan of music - even western music and movie soundtracks. Music and sound are a big deal to him.
◎ Seven Character Traits: (Loyal, easygoing, outgoing) || (clumsy, fidgety, immature) || + smarter than he pretends to be

◎ Third-Person Sample: It's been a few long hours - long enough that Yosuke's had time to let this whirlwind of information simmer and start to maybe make some kind of sense, but still not long enough that he knows what the hell he's supposed to do now.

Yosuke doesn't take well to being blindsided. He maybe made a little bit of a scene during that meeting, demanding to know the truth - the actual truth, not this "sci-fi werid stuff!" - and they maybe had to snap at him until he calmed down long enough to sit through the rest of that crazy powerpoint. Not that it mattered. None of it helped. And though he was quiet, on the inside, he could feel every single particle inside of him still screaming.

He's out now - released in order to explore the city. His new home. ... Something like that. He doesn't wander for too long, he just finds a bench by the side of a walking path, and then, he sits. His gaze hits the ground, his hands cover his mouth, and he tries to... think. Or something like that.

He feels lost. Completely, totally, one hundered percent lost. It's not even just the fact that he's on a colony. A colony! A real freakin' space colony. But it doesn't help that even that's just like an extra side dose of too much, and he honestly can't decide if that makes any of what he just sat through in that weird meeting-thing more or less believable than it had been.

Destroyed... the entire world was just destroyed. Just like that? Seriously? After all they did, after everything they went through, it's gone? He doesn't understand - not only how, but when could this have happened? Last thing he knew, he was chasing after that train, seeing his best friend and partner off after the end of what had to be the most meaningful year in their lives, and...

... And he doesn't know what to do right now.

He draws his knees up to his chest, rests his forehead against them as he grits his teeth and forces himself not to get any more emotional than he already is. A sob escapes his throat, but he tries to choke it back with a cough, fails miserably at that as the tears fall and his arms tighten around his legs. He stays curled up in that tight little ball for what feels like too long of a moment, but after long enough of trying to keep it together while also trying to ignore the stares of anyone passing by, he gives up. He stands, finally looks up from the ground, picks a direction, and starts walking.

He's gotta do something. Because he can't just do nothing.

He doesn't have a damn clue where Yu might be right now, but if he's here? If there's even the smallest glimmer of a chance that he might be here? Then Yosuke will find him.

And from there... who knows? One thing at a time, huh?
